Today, the official team list for the 2017 event was unveiled on the GODZone website. GODZone Race Director Warren Bates says it’s a showcase of Kiwi flair with a sprinkling of international talent. “Given this event sold out so quickly with all the racing spots gone within 30 minutes on opening day it not surprising that the New Zealand teams were the quickest off the mark. This field has by far the largest representation of Kiwis racing in the history of the event which means the sport is rapidly growing in this country and in a very… Read More →

This left the other top teams in the rock gorge to battle on, before the dawn fell. Team Merrell Adventure Addicts endured a cold canyon swim through three rock pools at 2am in the morning. It Takes Strength…and Strategy

For some competitors in the Cameco Cowboy Tough (CCT) 3.5-day Expedition Race across Wyoming, Day 3 started before Day 2 ended for other teams. As with any endurance event, competitors must be physically tough enough to put in the distance and just as strong mentally to keep those feet moving forward. But in adventure racing, strategy often comes in to play. Do you rest or do you try to find as many checkpoints as possible? It depends on the race and your team. On Day 2 of the Cameco Cowboy Tough (CCT) 3.5-day Expedition Race across Wyoming, two teams raced neck and neck–Tecnu Extreme Adventure Racing (two-time Cameco Cowboy Tough champions and fourth place in the Adventure Racing World Series)… Read More →

On Day 1, racers have four mandatory checkpoints to pick up in and around downtown Buffalo, including taking a shot of Wyoming Whiskey (or tea) at the famous Occidental Hotel, picking up a telegram and a gun casing (both needed later in the race), and diving to the bottom of an open-air spring-fed pool before biking to the Johnson County Fairgrounds to perform a rodeo challenge. Expedition Alaska – Deliverance at the Last Frontier

Expedition Alaska promised to take Adventure Racing back to the more adventurous roots of the sport and, with a course set to raise the stakes in expedition racing, it delivered. The race is one of the newest members of the AR World Series and attracted a full complement of 20 teams, 15 of them on the full course, including the world #1 ranked Columbia Vidaraid and #4 ranked Tecnu. It wasn’t surprising that Tecnu lead a strong US contingent, but perhaps more surprising was the presence of 6 teams from Australia or including Aussie racers. Maybe their experience of XPD Australia, the longest race in the World Series at 10 days, encouraged them to head for a race at ‘the… Read More →
