Adventure Racers Prepare for Godzone Chapter 6

An impressive field of New Zealand and international teams will line up in Queenstown later this month for the sixth chapter of GODZone. Today, the official team list for the 2017 event was unveiled on the GODZone website. GODZone Race Director Warren Bates says it’s a showcase of Kiwi flair with a sprinkling of international talent. “Given this event sold out so quickly with all the racing spots gone within 30 minutes on opening day it not surprising that the New Zealand teams were the quickest off the mark. This field has by far the largest representation of Kiwis racing in the history of the event which means the sport is rapidly growing in this country and in a very… Read More →

An interview with Andrea Peebles…GODZone racer who joined a team 6 days before the race!

Andrea Peebles joined a team of strangers only 6 days before GODZone Adventure began. We caught up with her for a little Q&A to get a little more perspective on how this all transpired and her thoughts post race. You joined a team of strangers less than a week before GODZone…how did that happen? A week and a half out from the race on the GODZOne Facebook page was a post from the Hill Billys team urgently requiring a female competitor as theirs was no longer available due to a family bereavement. I eagerly responded and with just 6 days notice was selected for one of the toughest Adventure Races in the World. It was then a mad rush to… Read More →

The Adventure Racing World Series got off to a spectacular start for 2014 with Godzone Adventure staging the first race of the year in Kaikoura. New Zealand is seen by many as the spiritual home of Adventure Racing as it was the venue for the first Raid Gauloises in 1989 and Godzone follows on from other iconic international expedition races held there, including Eco-Challenge and Southern Traverse. It is a legacy Kiwi racers take very seriously and the 3rd Edition of Godzone lived up to their expectations by delivering a 520km course that took teams through the stunning coastal and mountain scenery of South Island. The course took teams on a circuit starting and finishing in the coastal town of… Read More →

Most of the remaining field out of the 41 starting teams are paddling the Hurunui River where the short course cut off is at the Balmoral Forest main bridge. Race Director Warren Bates says it has put a lot of pressure on the back racing teams to make the grade to continue on. “It is a race within a race today as they all try to beat the cut off time. We know that our second placed team R&R Sport managed to paddle the river to this point in five and half hours so it can be… Read More →

The Hurunui River is the focus of day four at the GODZone adventure race in Kaikoura as the front end of the field paddle the longest water section of the 520km course. Five teams started paddling in earnest at 7am this morning after camping on the river side by Jollie Brook near Lake Sumner during an overnight dark zone. “Because the teams were not allowed on the river overnight it effectively restarts the race for them today as they bunched up coming off the Glyn Wye trek,” says Race Director Warren Bates. Christchurch team Vida de Aventura led by Sia Svendson was first to paddle this morning alongside Wanaka team R&R Sport Torpedo 7 led by Richard Anderson. One minute… Read More →
